Recently, Li Jun, the president of Karamay Campus of China University of Petroleum (Beijing), led a delegation organized by the Karamay Municipal Government to visit the United States. During the visit, Li Jun and his team were invited to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and participated in relevant activities of the World Energy Cities Partnership (WECP) and the 42nd CERAWEEK. The head of the Department of Cooperative Development accompanied the delegation.At the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Li Jun and his team met with Reitumetse Mabokela, the Vice President for International Affairs and Provost, Sammer Saleh Jones, the Director of International Affairs, Venetria K. Patton, the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the vice dean and professional heads related to the college. During the symposium, Li Jun introduced the school-running situation and international cooperation intentions of the campus. Both sides conducted in-depth discussions on promoting the implementation of the "3+1+1" undergraduate-master joint training agreement signed by the two universities, and reached preliminary cooperation intentions in teacher exchange, student summer camps, and jointly carrying out professional training programs.In Houston, Li Jun and his team participated in the board meeting of the World Energy Cities Partnership, the hydrogen energy-themed dinner of the 42nd CERAWEEK, the "Agora" event, and other activities.The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (abbreviated as UIUC), founded in 1867, is located in the serene twin cities of Urbana-Champaign in Illinois. It is a well-known public research university in the United States. The university is a founding member of the Big Ten Conference and a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), known as the "Public Ivy". Among its alumni and professors, 30 have won the Nobel Prize, and 25 have won the Pulitzer Prize, second only to the University of California, Berkeley, among public universities in the United States. UIUC's engineering programs enjoy a worldwide reputation, with almost all majors ranking in the top ten in the United States.

On the afternoon of March 15, the campus held an online exchange meeting with Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (SKOLTECH) in Russia. Mihail Spasennykh, the director of the Petroleum Science and Engineering Center at Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, and representatives of professors from the center participated in the meeting. Xing Xiaokai, vice president of the campus, attended the meeting, along with responsible persons from the Organization and Personnel Department, Graduate Department, Science, Technology, and Information Department, and Cooperation and Development Department, as well as teachers from relevant colleges. During the meeting, both sides introduced the basic information of their respective institutions and conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges on topics such as teacher exchanges, joint training of graduate students, and joint application for scientific research projects. Mihail Spasennykh expressed that the two universities have many similarities in terms of advantageous disciplines and talent cultivation, and there is broad cooperation space and development prospects. He looked forward to expanding the scope and areas of cooperation through exchanges and cooperation between the two sides to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. Xing Xiaokai pointed out that this cooperation and exchange with Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology is expected to further enhance and expand educational cooperation between the two institutions and the two countries, promote the sharing and interconnection of international resources, actively explore new paths for cultivating high-level, applied, and international talents in the campus, and contribute educational strength to implementing the national "Belt and Road" cooperation initiative and serving the construction of the core area of the Silk Road Economic Belt in Xinjiang. Both sides reached a consensus that the campus can hire teachers from Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology in Russia to teach short-term courses; can pilot the joint training of graduate students in relevant majors such as petroleum engineering; and can jointly apply for international natural science foundation cooperation projects to jointly produce outstanding talents and scientific and technological achievements. Previously, in order to deeply implement the spirit of President Xi Jinping's reply to Central Asian international students at China University of Petroleum (Beijing) and promote the internationalization work of the campus, an internationalization work symposium was held on March 5. Li Jun, president of the campus, and Xing Xiaokai, vice president, attended the meeting. Responsible persons and teacher representatives from the Teaching Affairs Department, Science, Technology, and Information Department, Cooperation and Development Department, and various colleges participated in the meeting. The participants fully discussed matters related to the implementation of cooperation agreements with Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology in Russia, Satpayev University in Kazakhstan, and other universities, promoting the recruitment and training of international students coming to the campus in 2024, promoting international scientific research cooperation, and piloting the joint training of international students.Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (SKOLTECH), located in Moscow, the capital of Russia, is part of the Skolkovo Innovation Center, known as the "Russian Silicon Valley". It was jointly established by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Skolkovo Foundation in 2011. The university offers fully English-taught programs in petroleum engineering, energy systems, computer science, mathematics and physics, photonics and quantum science, Internet of Things and wireless technology, space engineering systems, life sciences, and materials science.

On January 26th, the China-Kazakhstan University Industry-University-Research-Application Cooperative Matchmaking Conference was held at Xinjiang University. Sun Yao, member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education, Darkhan Ahmet-Zaki, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan, Wang Jianxin, member of the Standing Committee of the Autonomous Region Party Committee and Minister of Propaganda, attended the conference and delivered speeches. Vice Chairman of the Autonomous Region Kaysaer Abdukeremu participated in relevant activities. Leaders from 78 universities and 40 enterprises from home and abroad, including Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Tianjin University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an Technological University, and others, attended the forum. Li Jun, President of the Karamay Campus, the Science, Technology, and Information Department, the Cooperation and Development Department, and relevant teachers also participated in the conference. During the conference, Li Jun represented the campus to participate in the China-Kazakhstan University Scientific and Technological Innovation Achievement Exhibition and introduced the latest scientific and technological achievements of the campus to the leaders and representatives attending the conference. He expressed that he hoped to implement the spirit of the China-Central Asia Summit and the Third Belt and Road International Cooperation High-level Forum through this China-Kazakhstan Industry-University-Research-Application Matchmaking Conference, strengthen cooperation and exchanges with domestic and foreign universities, research institutions, and enterprises in areas such as talent cultivation, scientific research, and teacher-student exchanges, promote the transformation and application of achievements, and drive the high-quality development of the campus. Li Jun presided over and participated in the sub-forum on "University Industry-University-Research-Application Cooperation and Talent Cultivation" at the conference. He stated that the forum was designed with precision and prepared in an orderly manner, aiming to integrate the beneficial experiences and practices of universities in China and Kazakhstan in terms of discipline development, research frontiers, and industry-university-research-application, striving to promote the dissemination of knowledge, collision of ideas, inspiration of wisdom, and deepening of cooperation. Experts and scholars presented excellent academic sessions centering on their respective discipline advantages, research achievements, and good practices in industry-university-research-application, laying a solid foundation for subsequent deep cooperation and exchanges in industry-university-research-application between universities in China and Kazakhstan. The campus was invited to participate in this conference, aiming to implement the important consensus reached by the heads of China and Kazakhstan at the China-Central Asia Summit and the Third Belt and Road International Cooperation High-level Forum through practical actions, strengthen the deep integration and development of industry-university-research-application on the campus, and accelerate the transfer and transformation of important scientific and technological achievements and projects on the campus.

On December 12th, the 2023 Silk Road International Industry-University-Research-Application Cooperative Conference, hosted by the School Planning, Construction and Development Center of the Ministry of Education and co-hosted by the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education and Northwestern Polytechnical University, opened in Xi'an. More than 200 participants, including Li Xingwang, Vice Chairman of the Shaanxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Wu Guoqiang, Deputy Director of the School Planning, Construction and Development Center of the Ministry of Education, Wang Haibo, Deputy Director of the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education, leaders of education departments and universities in western provinces (autonomous regions), academicians, entrepreneurs, and representatives of universities from China, Russia, Italy, and other countries, attended the conference. President Li Jun of the Karamay Campus led a delegation to attend the conference. The theme of this conference was "Meeting the Silk Road with Smart Manufacturing, Innovating to Shape the Future." It consisted of nine sub-forums on energy and chemical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace, ecological protection in plateau areas and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin, electronics and science and technology, protection, development and utilization of traditional culture, smart water conservancy and low-carbon energy, urban green development, and safety and emergency management. Our university co-hosted the energy and chemical engineering sub-forum with Xi'an Jiaotong University, and invited Patricia Concepción, a professor at the Spanish Royal Academy of Sciences and mentor for joint postgraduate training, to deliver a special report titled "Catalyst Development through Fundamental Insights."During the conference, participants visited the "International Industry-University-Research-Application Achievement Exhibition" and focused on key issues such as the development of core technologies, the improvement of the efficiency of technological transformation and application, and the cultivation of international scientific and technological talents. They conducted deep discussions and exchanges, pragmatically promoting greater achievements in international cooperation in industry-university-research-application along the Silk Road.

The game kicked off amidst a gentle breeze and fine rain. The international student team was composed of members from different countries and regions, with diverse cultural backgrounds but all sharing a deep love for football. The Chinese student team, on the other hand, was comprised of outstanding players from the campus football team, who exhibited seamless cooperation and proficient skills. With the sound of the whistle, the match officially began. Both teams quickly got into the groove, engaging in intense attacks and defenses. The campus football team took the initiative early on, frequently launching attacks. Facing the onslaught, the international student team actively defended, striving to find opportunities for counterattacks and successfully scoring goals. The cheerleading squad spontaneously organized by the international students constantly shouted encouragement and cheers, further boosting the confidence of their teammates. Adhering to the principle of "friendship first, competition second," both teams fully demonstrated remarkable willpower and exceptional competitive abilities. The instructing teachers from the Sports Department also fully implemented their professional ethics, ensuring the smooth progress of the match.After the game, many international students expressed that this competition had given them a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and sports spirit, and they hoped for more opportunities for exchanges between Chinese and foreign students in the future.The Sino-foreign student football friendship match provided a platform for sports exchanges between Chinese and foreign students, showcasing their sports spirit and competitive abilities. It enriched the campus cultural life of international students and built bridges of friendship between Chinese and foreign students.Looking ahead, the college will continue to optimize its measures to care for the learning and living conditions of international students, organize diverse cultural and sports activities, enrich their after-school life, and provide more opportunities for them to showcase their talents. These efforts aim to enhance mutual understanding and strengthen exchanges and unity among Chinese and foreign students, contributing to the delivery of high-quality education for international students.

On the afternoon of March 16th 2024, the Russian major of the Department of Language and Art held the first "Russian Corner" activity of this semester. This issue of the "Russian Corner" focused on experiencing Russian traditional festival culture. Organized by foreign teacher Gulnara Tolmacheva and Li Boyu, the director of the Department of Language and Art, it attracted the participation of more than 20 students majoring in Russian as well as some international students. During the activity, foreign teachers and international students personally made traditional Russian festival foods for everyone to taste. The students wore traditional Russian headwear, admired beautiful and charming traditional crafts such as Russian nesting dolls, tea kettles, and traditional flower spoons, and made traditional festival handicrafts under the guidance of the teachers, experiencing the unique charm of Russian traditional culture.In the interactive session for Chinese and foreign youths, international students introduced Russian traditional festivals and customs, while Chinese students sang popular Chinese and Russian songs on the spot. With the cheerful music, the students sang and danced, played Russian traditional festival games, and the atmosphere was filled with joy. This activity not only extended professional learning to the second classroom, connecting all aspects of aesthetic education through vivid cultural and artistic experiences, but also enhanced exchanges and friendships between Chinese and foreign youths on campus, injecting new vitality into the diversified development of campus culture.

From November 30 to December 2, 2023, Li Guanru, the counselor of the School of Arts and Sciences/College of Culture and Art, led our international students and student volunteers to visit Karamay Museum and the School History Exhibition Hall on campus to gain a deeper understanding of the historical heritage of the Oil City and the development process of our school. The theme of this visit was "Studying abroad in the Oil City and building dreams on the Silk Road". At the Karamay Museum, the international students visited six exhibition halls, including the preface hall, the ancient mystery hall, the budding emergence hall, the hard work hall, the reform and development hall, and the new era exhibition hall. They browsed through photos, charts, physical objects, sand tables, and models from different periods of Karamay, and were deeply attracted by the derricks, drilling machines, and oil pumps used in the early stages of Karamay oilfield development displayed in the yard. During the visit, they learned about the development process of Karamay in various historical stages and were amazed by its rich resources and rapid development. On the afternoon of December 2, the international students and volunteers visited the exhibition hall on the first floor of J2. With the explanation of the guide Gao Wenjin, they visited in detail the six major parts of the exhibition hall, including the Achievements in Running the School, Entrepreneurship, Exploration, Renewal, Development, and Take-off. This visit allowed the international students to gain a deeper understanding of the 70-year development history of our school, as well as the school's educational philosophy, discipline construction, and talent cultivation.This visit not only allowed the international students to gain a deeper understanding of the history and culture of Karamay, the Oil City, but also inspired their love for the school and interest in Chinese culture. Especially when studying the contents of President Xi's reply letter to the Central Asian international students of China University of Petroleum (Beijing), the students were deeply inspired and expressed their determination to study hard and contribute to the construction of the China-Central Asia community with a shared future.International students studying the contents of President Xi's reply letter This event demonstrated our school's emphasis on international education and the cultivation of international students. To promote the construction and development of courses in the research direction of regional and national studies in English majors at the campus, and to build a platform for mutual exchange between Chinese and foreign students, on November 21, the Language and Art Department of the School of Arts and Sciences organized English major students to participate online in the "International Week" series of student lectures hosted by the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of the University of Szeged in Hungary. Despite the seven-hour time difference between Hungary and China, the students overcame the difficulty of time difference and participated in the lecture activities online during their rest time after evening self-study. They actively interacted with the teachers and students on site at the University of Szeged and asked them some questions about Chinese culture. Ma Wenchao, a teacher from the Language and Art Department of the School of Arts and Sciences who was sent to the University of Szeged in Hungary as a visiting scholar, was invited to participate in the "International Week" series of academic lectures hosted by the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of the University of Szeged. He delivered an academic report titled "An Overview of China-Hungary Relations and a Survey of Xinjiang". The report content was divided into two parts: "Overview of China-Hungary Relations" and "Survey of Xinjiang". It not only sorted out the development process of the good relationship between China and Hungary after the founding of New China, but also introduced the basic situation and development status of Xinjiang in the new era to international teachers and students. It vividly demonstrated the realistic portrayal of social development and people's happy life in Xinjiang today, which was widely praised by teachers and students at the University of Szeged. The University of Szeged is a Hungarian national research university with a history of over 400 years. It is located in Szeged, the third largest city in Hungary, and belongs to the Csongrád-Csanád County in the southern Great Plain. As one of the top universities in Hungary, the University of Szeged is also a leading higher education institution in Central Europe. The Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of the University of Szeged is a well-known faculty. The current President of Hungary, Katalin Novák, graduated from this faculty. The "International Week" series of academic lectures is a traditional academic activity of the faculty. The series of lectures covers academic topics such as international law, geopolitics, and other related regional and national studies and international relations. The lecture guests are all experts and scholars from relevant fields around the world.
