Program of StatisticsStatistics is a comprehensive science that aims to infer the essence of the measured objects and even predict their future through means such as searching, organizing, analyzing, and describing data. Statistics utilizes a large amount of professional knowledge from mathematics and other disciplines, and its application scope covers almost all fields of social sciences and natural sciences. Therefore, the learning objectives of the statistics major include the basic knowledge, fundamental theories, primary methods, and tool software of mathematics and statistics, as well as a moderate understanding of the basic knowledge of social sciences and natural sciences in various application fields. The department's statistics major boasts a strong faculty team, consisting of 2 professors, 3 associate professors, and 4 lecturers. The department has established strong ties with the statistics majors of East China Normal University and Beijing Jiaotong University, which are supported by the Ministry of Education. Each of these universities has a professor serving as the academic leader of the campus statistics major, and the faculty of their respective colleges also provide powerful support for the campus statistics major. The statistics major is equipped with well-conditioned professional laboratories, and the library has a rich collection of professional books and online resources. Approximately 10% of students have the opportunity to exchange and study at the Beijing campus or Zhongnan University of Economics and Law for one year. The core courses of the statistics major include mathematical analysis, advanced algebra, probability theory, mathematical statistics, stochastic processes, regression analysis, multivariate statistical analysis, time series analysis, experimental design, programming languages, data structures, data analysis and statistical software, real variable functions, statistical computation, microeconomics, macroeconomics, and more.Graduates of the statistics major enjoy a wide range of employment opportunities. They are welcomed by departments involved in data analysis and research, such as government agencies, universities, large enterprises, financial institutions, investment firms, and social security organizations. In addition, various large high-end manufacturing industries and enterprises that require product research and development or artificial intelligence applications also actively recruit graduates of the statistics major.Program of Mathematics and Applied MathematicsThis program aims to cultivate students who possess a solid grasp of the basic theories and methods of mathematical science and are equipped with the ability to apply mathematical knowledge and computers to solve practical problems. Graduates receive initial training in scientific research and are capable of engaging in research and teaching work in scientific, technological, educational, and economic sectors or undertaking practical applications, research and development, and management tasks in production, operation, and management departments, becoming high-level professionals.Students are expected to systematically master mathematical language, able to describe and analyze problems using mathematical language. They should possess a deep theoretical foundation in various branches of mathematics and have undergone rigorous scientific thinking training. They should also have the necessary knowledge of computers, software, and algorithms for quantitative analysis. Students are required to master the basic theories and methods of mathematics and applied mathematics, receive basic training in mathematical modeling, possess good scientific literacy and a broad knowledge base, and demonstrate strong innovation consciousness, a pioneering spirit, and strong practical application abilities. They should also possess an international perspective and be able to communicate and exchange ideas across cultural backgrounds, as well as demonstrate humanities and social science literacy and a sense of social responsibility. Our university's mathematics and applied mathematics major boasts strong academic strength, with a total of 24 faculty members, including 11 senior-level faculty members accounting for 45.8% of the total, and 6 faculty members holding doctorates, accounting for 25% of the total. Among them, there is one teaching expert and one teacher awarded the title of campus-level brand course teacher.Relying on our university's long-standing accumulations in fields such as petroleum, geology, geophysical exploration, and storage and transportation, as well as the "Statistics + Mathematics" laboratory established by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the mathematics department has gradually formed distinctive research directions such as numerical simulation of oil and gas reservoirs, theory and application of differential equations, optimization control and intelligent algorithms. The department has undertaken more than 10 vertical and horizontal research projects with a total research funding of over 3 million yuan, including 4 projects approved by provincial and ministerial-level scientific research funds. The department has won one national invention patent authorization gold award and published one monograph. It has also received one second-prize award for outstanding teaching achievements at the university level and one second-prize award for teaching achievements in Beijing's higher education. The department has published four textbooks and teaching aids for undergraduate and graduate students. Two teachers have won the first prize in the university's young teacher teaching skills competition. In terms of student cultivation, undergraduate students have published two academic papers and guided students to win 39 national-level awards, including two first prizes in the National College Student Mathematical Modeling Contest, and 338 provincial-level and above awards. The Department has established a first-class course in the autonomous region. The Joint Party Branch of the Department has been selected as a national model party branch for party building. The core courses of mathematics and applied mathematics include mathematical analysis, advanced algebra, spatial analytic geometry, differential equations, probability theory and mathematical statistics, operations research, functional analysis, numerical analysis, complex function, mathematical modeling, attribute data analysis, Python language, regression analysis, etc. After graduation, students of this major can engage in scientific research, software development, education and teaching in industries such as energy and new energy, cloud computing, the Internet, computer software, artificial intelligence, finance/investment/securities, and education and teaching. They can engage in specific jobs such as algorithm engineers, data analysts, data mining engineers, insurance actuaries, and teachers. Undergraduate students of this major can apply for master's degree programs in mathematics, computer science, economics, management, statistics, and other disciplines.Upon graduation, students majoring in this field can engage in scientific research, software development, and education and teaching in industries such as energy and new energy, cloud computing, the Internet, computer software, artificial intelligence, finance/investment/securities, and education and teaching.
