Program of Chinese Language and LiteratureThis program focuses on the study of Chinese and foreign literary history, literary theory, and linguistic knowledge. Students receive basic training in humanities and social sciences and acquire fundamental skills in aesthetic appreciation, creative thinking, scientific research in the field, and the comprehensive application of knowledge in social practice.Our campus boasts an excellent faculty team, consisting of one professor, four associate professors, and three lecturers. Additionally, 17 affiliated universities provide further support in terms of teaching resources, forming a solid foundation for our department. The campus library is stocked with a rich collection of humanities books and online resources, covering various categories, fully satisfying the reading needs of students majoring in Chinese Language and Literature. On-campus cultural clubs and off-campus practice bases under preparation provide excellent platforms for students to showcase their talents.The core undergraduate courses for Chinese Language and Literature include Modern Chinese, Ancient Chinese, Introduction to Linguistics, Ancient Chinese Literature, Modern Chinese Literature, Contemporary Chinese Literature, Foreign Literature, Introduction to Literary Theory, Aesthetics, and Writing.Concerning the employment prospects of this major, some people mistakenly believe that the knowledge acquired in Chinese Language and Literature majors focuses on written education and lacks practicality, leading to difficulties in employment. However, the truth is that the employment opportunities for Chinese Language and Literature majors are quite broad. The knowledge acquired in this major is fundamental and indispensable in various fields and industries, where there is a constant need for work such as text editing, promotion, copywriting, and document processing. Whether in enterprises, institutions, government departments, news media, or educational institutions, a significant number of talents majoring in Chinese Language and Literature are employed. With the development of new communication methods such as the internet and self-media, the demand for Chinese Language and Literature professionals in various fields and industries will continue to rise steadily. Therefore, the competitiveness of Chinese Language and Literature professionals in the job market will further increase.Program of EnglishThis program aims to cultivate research-oriented and composite English talents with Chinese sentiments, an international perspective, firm beliefs, solid basic English language skills, profound knowledge of English language and literature and culture, strong applied translation abilities, and necessary knowledge in fields such as technology, business, and international relations. The major covers a wide range of content in various humanities fields, making it a highly integrated major.Our English major boasts a strong faculty team, including both overseas-educated teachers with long-term study or visiting experiences in the UK and the US, as well as high-level teachers dispatched by affiliated universities such as Shanghai International Studies University and Beijing Foreign Studies University. These teachers have extensive teaching experience and high research capabilities. Additionally, we have established and are continuously developing language and interpretation laboratories. Apart from classroom learning, the English major combines the characteristics of a petroleum institution and collaborates with local enterprises to carry out practical activities related to "English + Energy/Translation/Teaching Assistance". Meanwhile, we also organize colorful extracurricular activities, including the Model United Nations, Drama Night, cultural experience activities, and foreign language competitions.The core undergraduate courses for the English major include Comprehensive English, Advanced English, English Listening and Speaking, English Phonetics, English Grammar, English Lexicology, English Reading, English Writing, English Speech, English Debate, Cross-cultural Communication, Society and Culture of English-speaking Countries, Introduction to English Linguistics, Translation, Interpretation, Contemporary International Relations, International Organizations and NGOs, Fundamentals of Country and Regional Studies, Current Affairs English, Academic English, Scientific English, Research Methods and Academic Writing, etc.According to statistics from the Ministry of Labor and Personnel, the employment rate of English major graduates has always been among the top 10 in various majors. The employment rate of English major graduates from most universities has reached over 90%. As China's ties with other countries become closer, the demand for English professionals will increase, ensuring good employment prospects for the English major for a considerable period of time. If you are willing to try, the employment opportunities for English major graduates are actually quite broad. There are two main employment directions: jobs that require English as a profession only need solid language foundation and language proficiency, such as translation, English editing, reporters, teachers, etc. Jobs that use English as a tool refer to occupations in other industries where English is used as a language for communication, such as foreign trade, finance, law, customs, tourism, and related positions in foreign companies.Program of Russian The learning objects of the Russian major include not only the basic knowledge related to Russian language itself, such as phonetics, grammar, and vocabulary, as well as communicative abilities, but also a series of contents related to Russian national conditions, culture, economy and trade, and literature. The cultivation feature of the Russian major at our campus is "Russian language + international joint cultivation + knowledge in the field of petroleum energy and geology". Therefore, relevant knowledge in the field of energy such as petroleum and petrochemicals, as well as geological knowledge, are also optional learning objects after entering the Russian major. This kind of knowledge can not only be obtained through courses such as "Overview of the Five Central Asian Countries" and "Selected Readings of Russian Documents on Petroleum", but also through applying for the international cooperation and cultivation project between Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus in the second year of university to study courses related to Russian language, geology, and international trade in Russia.The current teaching staff of the Russian major consists of 12 teachers, including 8 on campus and 1 foreign teacher. Among them, there are 2 professors, 1 associate professor, 1 post-doctorate, 5 lecturers, and 3 teaching assistants. The teachers have rich teaching experience, strong scientific research capabilities, and a reasonable academic structure. They graduated from renowned universities at home and abroad, such as Beijing Foreign Studies University, Shanghai International Studies University, Wuhan University, Moscow State University, and Saint Petersburg State University. 92% of the teachers have overseas study or visiting experience. In addition, excellent Russian teachers from Beijing Foreign Studies University, Shanghai International Studies University, Central China Normal University, the Chinese People's Armed Police Force Academy, and Zhongnan University of Economics and Law have come to our campus to support the construction of the Russian major.With the support of an excellent teaching team, students have also achieved excellent results. In 2021, the passing rate of the national TEM-4 for the Russian major reached 83%. At the 8th Xinjiang University Russian Language Skills Competition in 2021, six participating students representing the junior and senior groups won three first prizes, one second prize, and two third prizes. Nearly 20 students received the highest level A certificate in the International Russian Dictation Contest in 2021 and 2022.The core courses of the Russian major include Basic Russian, Advanced Russian, Russian Grammar, Russian Listening and Speaking, Russian Reading, Russian Writing, Translation Theory and Practice, History of Russian Literature, Overview of Russia and the Five Central Asian Countries, Academic Writing and Research Methods.Currently, among the two graduating classes, 10 students have been successfully admitted to postgraduate programs at Beijing Foreign Studies University for Russian interpretation, Harbin University of Science and Technology for Russian translation, China University of Petroleum for teaching Chinese as a foreign language, and Marxist principles. In addition, several students have been admitted to postgraduate programs in Russian language and literature at Beijing International Studies University, international politics at Liaoning University, and accounting at Hebei Normal University. Many other students have chosen to pursue further studies abroad, including Moscow State University, Tomsk Polytechnic University, Novosibirsk State University, Sheffield University for management, and Glasgow University for human resource management. The enrollment rate ranks first on the campus. The remaining students have gradually found employment in various provinces and cities in China, embarking on a new journey in life.
