On September 15th, the 2023 Asia-Europe Expo · International Education Exchange Forum was held at the Urumqi International Convention and Exhibition Center. With the theme of "Deepening Educational Exchange and Building a Better Future," the forum was sponsored by the Department of Education of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the Education Bureau of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and the School Planning, Construction, and Development Center of the Ministry of Education. China University of Petroleum (Beijing), in collaboration with Xinjiang University and Tsinghua University, hosted the Engineering and Science Sub-forum titled "International Exchange and Cooperation in Energy and Mineral Resources Development and Utilization under the Background of Interdisciplinary Integration.
Leading figures from the Ministry of Education and the autonomous region attended the forum activities, including Jing Degang, Director of the Ethnic Education Department of the Ministry of Education, and Wu Guoqiang, Deputy Director of the School Planning, Construction, and Development Center of the Ministry of Education, who both attended the Engineering and Science Sub-forum. The sub-forum was attended by leaders, experts, and scholars from 38 universities in nine countries including China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Ecuador, Ukraine, Benin, Canada, and Spain. President Wu Xiaolin was invited to deliver a special report titled "The New Mission of a New Type of Research University in the Sustainable Development of Human Society under the Goal of 'Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality'." The sub-forum was presided over by Vice President Liu Jian, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the Karamay Campus of China University of Petroleum (Beijing).
In her report, Wu Xiaolin introduced the development achievements of China University of Petroleum (Beijing) in serving the "carbon peak and carbon neutrality" goals, the transformation and upgrading of the energy industry, and the construction of the "Belt and Road." She also elaborated on the university's international cooperation vision in areas such as industry-education integration and technological innovation. She stated that in 2015, the university established a campus in Karamay, Xinjiang, the core area of the "Belt and Road," marking a new journey of comprehensively serving talent cultivation and energy cooperation along the "Belt and Road" by leveraging its geographical advantages. She pointed out that the future world will be one that is more open and inclusive, one that emphasizes innovation and leadership, and one that requires closer cooperation. Achieving carbon peaking and neutrality and accelerating green energy development are important paths for human sustainable development. High-level research universities should be guided by sustainable development, innovate their concepts, integrate internal mechanisms, widely disseminate the concept of "carbon peaking and neutrality," accelerate the iterative upgrading of traditional majors, and cultivate top-notch innovative talents who can lead sustainable development. They should better leverage the supporting role of technological innovation in energy conservation and carbon reduction, promote the synchronous development of industrial transformation and upgrading, energy conservation and carbon reduction, and modern energy systems. They should also strengthen the construction of international cooperation and innovation platforms, promote international exchange and cooperation in the field of "carbon peaking and neutrality" to deeper levels, higher standards, and broader areas, and contribute educational strength to achieving the "carbon peaking and neutrality" goals on schedule and sharing a more harmonious and beautiful green home.
During the sub-forum, China University of Petroleum (Beijing) signed an inter-university cooperation agreement with Satpayev National Technical University of Kazakhstan.
The 2023 Asia-Europe Expo · International Education Exchange Forum aims to establish a new platform for educational cooperation and exchange between China and Asian and European countries, especially neighboring countries, to jointly promote the construction of an educational community along the "Belt and Road." A total of 97 foreign guests from 18 countries attended the forum. On the same day, the "2023 Asia-Europe Expo · International Education Exchange Forum Urumqi Initiative" was released.
During the event, the Karamay Campus of the university was also invited to participate in the Xinjiang University Scientific and Technological Achievements Exhibition, showcasing the university's significant technological transformation achievements in areas such as oil and gas exploration and development, production and processing, and new energy.
