Chen Da’en, Vice President of China University of Petroleum-Beijing, led an educational delegation to Karamay City for on-site research on collaborative campus development. The delegation conducted inspections at the campus student cafeteria, dormitories, teaching buildings, staff training apartments, and practical training center. They also visited students from the “Outstanding Engineer Class” conducting graduation projects, inquiring in detail about their academic and living conditions in Karamay. Vice President Chen stated that this visit underscored the municipal government and residents’ strong commitment to establishing a high-quality undergraduate institution with rigorous standards, as well as their years of dedicated efforts. Delegation members spoke highly of the progress of the Karamay Campus, affirming that its construction has largely met operational standards.

On December 10, 2015, the inauguration ceremony of the Karamay Campus of China University of Petroleum-Beijing(CUPK) was held in Urumqi. Attendees included Erkin Tuniyaz, Member of the Standing Committee of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Autonomous Region; Mawlit Mansur, Director of the Department of Ethnic Education under the Ministry of Education; Zhang Laibin, President of China University of Petroleum-Beijing; leaders from the Karamay Municipal Party Committee and Government; and over 100 representatives from regional departments, central enterprises in Xinjiang, and 15 Xinjiang-based universities. Together, they witnessed this milestone event in Karamay’s history.
The Karamay Campus was officially established as Xinjiang’s first “211 Project” institution directly under the Ministry of Education outside the autonomous region. China University of Petroleum-Beijing, a key national university directly under the Ministry of Education, was among the first institutions included in the “211 Project” in 1997. Its origins trace back to the Department of Petroleum and Chemical Engineering at Tsinghua University, which later incorporated faculty from Tianjin University, Peking University, and other institutions. It features petroleum-related disciplines as its core strength, prioritizes engineering, promotes multidisciplinary coordinated development, and is also one of the universities in China that have a graduate school.

- Our Campus
China University of Petroleum (Beijing), formerly known as Beijing Petroleum Institute, was founded in 1953 and is the first petroleum higher education institution in New China, laying the foundation for the exploration and development of China's petroleum higher education. On October 21, 2015, the Ministry of Education approved the construction of the Karamay campus of China University of Petroleum (Beijing), marking a new stage of development for the university in serving the major strategic needs of the country and regional economic development.
China university of petroleum (Beijing) karamay campus is planned to cover a total area of 7200 mu（nearly 4,802,400 square meter）, with a total construction area of 645,000 square meters and a total investment of 4.3 billion yuan. The campus not only has petroleum engineering, geology, storage and transportation and other traditional advantages of petroleum university majors, but also will open information security, green energy, green chemical, logistics management and other expansion of new professional, and carry out for central Asia students education. At present, the teaching building, training workshop, student dormitory, student apartment, student restaurant, gymnasium and other facilities have been built. It is expected that after 5 to 8 years, the school will reach 8,000 full-time students.
